On December 16th Big Bear Lodge No. 617 held it's 83rd installation of Officers in a closed ceremony. For those of you who have never visited the Big Bear Lodge, it is , as most Lodges, steeped in local history. The furnishings came from cedar trees on land cleared by Bill Knickerbocker who provided the original meeting place for Masons in Big Bear above his Carriage house. Dr. Stanley L. Channon: family patriarch, husband (65 yrs) , father, grandfather, Past Grand Master of Masons in California & Hawaii, has moved on to be with our Supreme Grand Master. He passed, with family at his side, on November 9, 2013 8:15AM in Pleasanton, Ca., at the age of 89, after being hospitalized with a series of illnesses . Stanley is a native of Australia . His father, John Lyall Channon and mother, Margaret (Merrigan) were both teachers in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.. Brother Sam Cross received the Golden Veterans Award (50 years as a Master Mason) last night in a very meaningful ceremony at Riverside Lodge. Bro. Bill Stines was honored on September 4, 2013 at Evergreen Lodge in Riverside with the Golden Veterans Award (50 year membership) . Prior to the ceremony , more than 50 attended the dinner . Lynnette Channon cooked up chicken fried steak, fresh mashed potato, corn, rolls, salad , and her cherry/pineapple dessert. Jobs Daughters of Bethel 264 served the dinner . Following the dinner, Greg Covel, Master of Evergreen introduced the Past Grand Masters and turned the program over to the Assistant Grand Lecturer, Frank Lee to perform the ceremony. Brother Bob Bequin was honored at Temescal Palms Lodge in Corona for his 50 years of membership at a dinner and presentation on August 6, 2013. His bio was read by the Master of the Lodge, Worshipful Michael Padilla. Many members from the Corona Circle City Shirne Club were also in attendance, supporting their long time member. A little history was made at Chino Valley Masonic Lodge # 427 as the first candidate since the lodge charter was suspended three years ago, received his first degree. Mr. Glenn Joseph Kennedy was initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason on Tuesday July 16th. There were thirty brethren in attendance representing every lodge in the district plus several other lodges including a visitor from Brazil. On July 13 & 14, 2013, the Grand Lecturer and the Grand Lodge Ritual Committee met at Temescal Palms No. 314 in Corona with two OUTSTANDING ritual teams: The “Stan Salter Memorial School of Masonic Instruction Ritual Team” under the direction of Worshipful Jack McEnterfer, and the Division 8 Ritual Team under the direction of Worshipful Robert Barden.
